I am a lecturer in social anthropology and development at the University of Edinburgh. I have a DPhil in Social Anthropology (2008) from the University of Sussex and have held teaching and research positions at Cornell University, Goldsmiths College, London, and the National University of Ireland. Between 2000-3 I worked as a consultant for the International Labour Organisation in Kathmandu and Geneva and between 2006-7 as a researcher at the Centre for Research on Multinationals in Amsterdam. My interests in business and development bring together a concern with material infrastructure and the politics of markets. His current research is focused on market-based approaches to low carbon development and energy access. He currently holds a 3-year research grant from the UK Leverhulme Trust to explore the creation of off the grid markets for ultra affordable solar photovoltaic systems in South Asia.
